I run or co-run a few home businesses and today I thought I would pass along a few tips that I have learned over the 20+ years that I have had a home business.
First…let me ask you this question. Do you procrastinate and don’t get your business work or client work done on time? Do you wait until the last day or hours before it’s due to complete it? If so, that is a bad business practice that you MUST change today!
When you have a home business it is usually yourself or yourself and a few others who are running it. You don’t have a large group of employees to rely on to help you get that work done. There are things that happen in our daily lives that we don’t plan on…like our family members getting sick, deaths ocurring in the family, natural disasters, electricity or internet going down or whatever.
If you let your work sit and try to work on it right before it’s due what happens if some emergency arises? Who will complete that work and get it in for you? In most cases…no one!
This is why it is VERY important that you break that procrastinating last minute habit today!
You really need to set up a schedule and pencil all of your business tasks and deadlines. You need to work on your business projects or client work ahead of time and have it completed and ready to go for submission or delivery several days before it’s actually due!
By planning ahead and completing your work ahead of time you will prevent business disasters and equally as important, it will be less stressful for you and those around you. Clients and Customers do not like to hear your “excuses” on why your work or their work hasn’t been completed on time.
If you want to be taken seriously in your business and be taken seriously by your customers and clients you need to get organized and get your work completed ahead of time. So break that “bad” business habit today and save yourself a headache tomorrow.

In this day and age, many online individuals and friends are partnering up and starting various online businesses. That is all well and good but do you have an official plan of what you will do if that business partnership dissolves in a few years? If not, you really should!
Before you even begin a business partnership with another individual you both should sit down and discuss what will happen if and when the partnership dissolves. Here are some things you both should consider.
1. If one of you decide to leave the partnership, how much notice should be given to the other partner and how should this notice be communicated? Depending on the type of business you have started, the notice should be no less than 30 days.
2. Once one of you decides to leave the business, what is expected of that person until the final end date? In other words, will the person leaving the business still be required to fulfill their daily job duties until the final end date?
3. Once the business partnership is dissolved, who will retain the business? Will there be any costs involved in restructuring the business to sole ownership and who will be responsible for paying those costs?
4. If the partnership should end on bad terms, do you have a non-disclosure policy in effect? If you don’t have one, I suggest you draft one up! A lot of times when partnerships fail, hurt feelings sometimes get out of control and gossip and slander can hurt the partner that is left running the business.
When you partner up with another person and start an online business together, it is important to properly plan out all of the details of that partnership should a break up occur. By planning ahead for this type of scenario, it can save you a lot of heartache, grief and money.

When it comes to finding the perfect Direct Sales Company, you need to sit down and make a list of what is important to you.
Here are 8 important things you need to consider:
1. Are you willing to do home parties? The majority of Direct Sales Companies require their consultants to do home parties. If this is something you are not interested in, look for a company where there are no home party requirements.
2. Are there any monthly or quarterly quotas. A lot of companies have some sort of quota policy which means you will be required to sell a certain amount of products in a specific amount of time.
3. What are the ongoing costs for this business? With most businesses, you will find that you will be responsible for the cost of a consultant website, catalogs, business supplies and samples of the products. It is important to know what the ongoing costs will be.
4. Do you have to recruit others to join the company? If you are not comfortable with team building and just interested in the sales portion of the company, make sure there are no mandatory recruiting requirements.
5. How will your training be conducted? You will want to consider how the training will be provided to you. Will this training be in person or online? Will this training fit into your schedule?
6. What is the company’s advertising policy? It is important to find out this information before you join a company. You will want to make sure that the policy will coincide with how you plan to advertise and market your business.
7. How are the payments for orders processed and who does the shipping of products to your customers? These days, most Direct Sales companies will ship direct to your customers so that you don’t have to deliver products.
8. Do you feel passionate about the products you will be selling? Are the products high quality? What is the warranty and return policy of the company? Who pays for the returns?
In closing, you want to take your time when considering any company for your home business. Do your research and ask others who are in the industry for recommendations.

How to Design an Interesting Presentation by Colleen Davis
When you are in business, presentations are many. You need to make presentations most of the time because you would want to let target clients know the best about your business and what you can offer them. Delivering presentations then is part and parcel of ay marketing strategy of the business.
Now, there are presentations; and there are good presentations. Good presentations are usually those that are really interesting that it gets the audience so engrossed during the process that they often remember it long after the presentation is done. And well, there are presentations, those that result to a ho-hum experience to its audience.
So what makes a really interesting presentation? What makes for a good presentation? More than the presentation folders that were handed out that holds all the documents during the activity, what would make your target audience remember what you’ve told them? How can you get your target audience to actually remember your message, in addition to having them reminded by your papers in a neat and organized folder printing?
If you are someone who have designed a lot of PowerPoint presentations, this question would probably be a little easy for you. But there’s also a big difference in designing a PowerPoint presentation and actually delivering it in front of a group.
For one thing, delivering the presentation is more difficult because you have to stand in front of a group of people who may or may not like what you have to say. Secondly, if you are not used to it, delivering a presentation is one of the most nerve wracking activity ever. It can make you so nervous that you might even get tongue tied and stressed in the process.
So what makes standing up and speaking for an hour easy for others? How can they put up with the pressure of getting people to be interested in what they have to say? How can they do it? Or more precisely, how do these people do it?
Indeed, not everybody is born with the charisma and skill to be able to speak “off the cuff” about a topic. More so to make the subject interesting and memorable. There are really those who are born to be public speakers. They are a natural when it comes to delivering speeches in front of a crowd. But for mortals like us, it can be done. It may not be easy, but, I’ll say it again, it can be done. With a lot of preparation ad careful planning, most of us can actually be able to stand up and speak in front of a group, clearly and concisely about a particular topic.
Here’s how you can perform like a real pro with any business presentation.
DO rehearse. Practice your speech or presentation before you get in front of your audience. Ideally, this can be done by requesting your spouse or your colleague, and even your mirror to listen to what you have to say. Go one step further and record your presentation so you will be able see and hear what you need to improve on.
DO use humor. This is one strategy that makes for a better and engaging presentation. Infuse humor and tell anecdotes to explain your ideas. Ease the tension by opening your speech with a joke or a personal story that is appropriate to your subject.
DO know your message. Be sure to know everything there is to know on your topic. But do not overwhelm your audience with too much information. Just stick to the key ideas so you won’t make your presentation tedious.
DO provide a readable and legible PowerPoint presentation as your background. This would make it even easier for your audience to get your point.
DO have a consistent design in your PowerPoint presentation. This means having the same design and layout throughout your slides.
DO keep your images and animation to a minimum. Although pictures can make your presentation more interesting, you also should not overwhelm your audience that they forget what your message is really all about. Don’t confuse and distract them with too many pictures.
Finally, DO be creative. Provide creative and innovative ways for your audience to appreciate the subject you’re talking about in your presentation. Use charts, graphic images, and patterns that would attract the attention of your target clients.
Note: Don’t forget to bring your presentation folders to your presentation!

If you are looking to make money with a home business and you are considering joining one of the Direct Sales Companies, there are a few things you need to consider before going down the network marketing path.
Most recruiting consultants with a Direct Sales company will tell you that you can make a lot of money by joining their company and working the business on a full-time basis. While that is true for some people…the real truth is…only a small percentage of those in network marketing make thousands of dollars each month. Furthermore, for the few who do make the larger amounts of money in Direct Sales, those people have been in the business for a couple of years. You will not make millions and you certainly won’t make a lot of money overnight.
Working a home party plan type of business takes a lot of hard work and it does cost money! If any recruiter tells you that business is so good and that customers run to you without you having to do anything…that is a lie. Customers never magically find a home business consultant. You will have to spend consistent time each and every week promoting and marketing your business for it to be a success. Furthermore…you will have on-going business expenses such as ordering new catalogs, order forms, mailing supplies, samples and if you are promoting that business online, you will have internet expenses as well. Having a home party plan business isn’t always cheap.
In addition to the expenses there is the “time” factor. Will you have a minimum of 15 hours a week to work on your business? You will need to call up people you know to try to get party bookings and orders. You will need to spend time on advertising, marketing and networking for your business and after all of that is done, you will be responsible for conducting parties in your hostesses homes. If you want to make decent money you will need to recruit and train those who join your team. All of this can add up to 15+ hours per week! If you have the time…then a Direct Sales company may be for you.
The upside to having this type of business is that if you are willing to commit the time, energy, hard work and money to working and marketing this type of business…it can eventually make you a full-time income. For most consultants, it takes a minimum of 1 year before that full-time income is generated.
Can you make full-time money in a home party plan business? Yes you can! However, you will have to work your butt off to make it a success and you will need to choose the right company and leader to work with you to achieve business success.
