Every year the holidays seem to arrive faster than we expect and this year is no exception. With the economy being sluggish, thousands of stay at home moms are wondering what they can do this holiday season to earn some extra money for their family.
Here are 10 ideas that you can do this season to earn some extra cash that don’t require a college education.
1. Gift Wrapping Service – If you have a lot of free time and enjoy wrapping gifts, you could offer a gift wrapping service. You don’t need to be a professional, you just need to be creative and neat with your packaging.
2. Baking Holiday Goodies – People lead very busy lives these days and don’t have a lot of time to spend in their kitchens baking breads, cakes, pies and cookies. If you enjoy baking, you could offer to do the baking for your family and friends.
3. Babysitting Service – Parents are always looking for a few good babysitters so that they can run their errands and do their gift shopping. You will need to be flexible with your time and offer evening and/or weekend babysitting hours.
4. Greeting Cards Service – If you have nice penmanship, you could offer a greeting card service. You would have your customers purchase their own greeting cards and hand you their mailing list. You fill out the cards, address and stamp them…and then mail them off for your customer.
5. Dear Santa Christmas Letters – You can find free templates online on how to type up and send Dear Santa Claus response letters. Children love to get a reply back from Santa Claus along with a little trinket in their envelope.
6. Pet Sitting – A lot of people travel every year for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and they are looking for pet lovers who are responsible to care for their pets while they are away. You are usually required to walk, feed, water and play with the pet while the owner is away on vacation.
7. Gift Shopping – If you like to shop and don’t mind fighting the crowds in the stores, then perhaps this is an option for you. You can have your customer give you a list of the items they want and you go out and purchase them for those on the customer’s holiday gift-giving list.
8. Housecleaning – I know several home owners who hire seasonal housecleaning help. If you enjoy cleaning and if you are only looking to do it for a handful of weeks, this would be a nice option to earn some extra money.
9. Crafts – If you are creative and talented in the crafting medium…there is no better time to host your own craft show. If hosting one is not your cup of tea, you can find numerous Holiday bazaars and craft shows in your own community to participate in.
10. Party Host Services – A few years ago, a friend of mine was hosting a large party for her co-workers in her home. She hired me to come over for the day and evening to help her set up, cook, serve and clean-up after the party. If you enjoy entertaining guests and assisting a party host, this is a great opportunity to earn some extra money.
I hope these 10 ideas have sparked some creative ideas of your own. If you are looking to make some extra money this holiday season…now is the time to prepare a plan, print up some flyers and spread the word about whatever type of service you plan on providing this holiday season.

Practical Guidelines for Starting an Internet Home Based Business by Ms. Liz
With people losing their jobs and financial setbacks being what they are, there are more people starting internet home based businesses today than ever before. And why not? The internet accounts for over a hundred billion dollars a year in sales. Who doesn’t want a piece of that pie?
But before you even think about starting an internet home business yourself, there are a few things you need to consider that will help ensure your online success.
First off you need a solid business plan. This will include research for what market you want to be in, what products or services you want to sell or promote and close examination of your financial situation.
So Keeping those things in mind, the following list of practical guidelines will help you get started planning your internet home business.
Be Sure You are Financially Ready
Although it is true that starting an internet home business is cheaper than starting an offline business, that doesn’t mean it’s free. Your research and planning will require some time and building a website, finding a web hosting service as well as business tools and training will require a small budget.
Depending on the tools and services you use, starting an internet business could cost you $100 or less to get started or it could be as much as a few thousand dollars, it simply depends on what you decide to do. That’s where a good business plan is so important. You want to know right from the start what your business will be costing you so there are no surprises down the road.
Marketing will also play a big part in the success of your business. Your website, which will be your business, needs traffic and lots of it, so you’re going to have to find effective ways to drive traffic to your site. Whether you are using paid traffic options or free ones, keep in mind that it could take anywhere from one to six months before you actually see income coming in.
So be sure you draw up your business plan so you will know how much your business will cost, how much time you will need to spend at it and what tools and resources you will need to be successful.
Choose Your Online Business Model
There are many online business models to choose from. Legitimate business models include offering services, consulting, selling tangible items or information products, affiliate marketing and dropshipping to name a few.
But whatever business model you choose to be in it’s important to do something that you enjoy. If you are in a service based business where you create websites for example, but don’t especially love the service industry, you’ll want to consider that carefully before choosing that sort of business.
You may decide that you want to sell items on the web but don’t want to carry inventory, a dropshipping business may be ideal. Dropshipping allows you to sell items from your website but get shipped to the customer from a dropshipping supply house. When an order comes in through your website, the dropshipper packages and sends the item.
If you don’t especially love the customer service aspect of shipping products and dealing with inventory and returns, you may want to consider affiliate marketing where you don’t have products yourself, instead you simply promote other peoples’ products for a commission of the sale.
If you love to write you may want to create an informational website or a blog or write your own digital products that you can sell online.
Whatever you decide to do, be sure it fits with your personal, financial and business preferences. A business should meet your financial goals but it should also be something you enjoy. The more you like something, the better you will do at it.
Beware of the Online Schemers
There are lots of lures, schemes and tactics that trick people into thinking the internet is their ticket to fast riches. Don’t be mistaken. These are scams disguised to look like genuine plans. Only after it’s too late do you realize you’ve been scammed.
If you are not sure of a certain opportunity, check with the better business bureau, or check with ripoffreport.com before making any monetary commitments.
The simple truth is there is no fast and easy method for getting rich. If your true desire is to start an internet home based business, then just as in the offline world, you will need to invest time, effort, have a good plan in place and invest in your business.
Your business whether offline or online will be part of your future financial success, so treat it as such.

I am a big fan of Twitter and on most days you can find me on Twitter tweeting out business tips, links to business articles, crafting links and recipes. (some of my favorite things!). Over on Twitter I follow a lot of Etsy sellers who have a home-based craft business and so my post today is directed towards “some” of them.
The past several months I have noticed that a lot of the Etsy sellers will sit on Twitter for several hours a day tweeting out links to their products for sale over on Etsy and they will retweet out links to other Etsy seller’s products too. While this is good it is also bad.
I spent some time talking to two Etsy sellers a few days ago to see what else they do online to promote their Etsy store and both of these gals told me NOTHING. They simply sit on Twitter and tweet several hours a day. Both told me they do get a sale or two every week but customers are just not rolling in like they thought they would.
Well…I am here to tell you that Twitter is only one tool you should be using…there are others and a lot of these other tools will get you better results than spending 5 hours a day sitting on Twitter tweeting out all of your links. Here are some suggestions that I recommend that you should be doing.
1. Start a blog! Blogging about your business, crafts and products is a great way to reach new people and you can get in-depth and more personal on your blog than you can on your Etsy store. Blogging also helps you build up some links that point to your Etsy store and search engines these days crawl blogs pretty quickly and get them indexed. This means new traffic for you and possibly new customers. Blogging is a fabulous way to promote your business.
2. Try Article Marketing! If you can write a decent article (you don’t have to be a professional writer) then try article marketing. You simply write a 250 + word article related to your niche (business) and submit your articles to online article directories. People who are looking for blog, newsletter or website content will use your article which gives you new business exposure to people you might not of come into contact on your own. In addition, article marketing is a great way for you to build up valuable incoming one-way links which helps you climb higher in the search engine results.
3. Try Guest Blogging! If you don’t want to publish & maintain a blog on your own then consider writing up blog posts related to your niche and submit those posts to niche-related blogs for publishing. You would be amazed that thousands of bloggers do indeed accept guest blogger posts! Again…this is a great way to expose your business to new potential customers and it will get you some great incoming links.
There are many free and low-cost ways you can promote your Etsy store online and you should be utilizing as many of them as you can. Twitter is just one tool you should use but in my opinion, it’s not the best tool and the three options above would work better.
