Often times I see consultants giving customers discounts if they purchase products from them. When I ask them why they are giving them these discounts they tell me that they want the customer’s business so giving them a discount will entice the order from the customer.
Well..that might be true and I say “might” because if you are just blindly giving out discounts to people to just get their order it is REALLY going to take a “bite” out of the amount of money that you earn.
In my honest opinion you should not be placing a slew of advertisements (in-print online or offline) offering customers a big discount if they come buy their products from you because you are in a direct sales business to make MONEY. With most direct sales company you earn 25% to 40% in commission and if you are giving a slew of people 10% to 20% off their purchases with you…well…that adds up and that big chunk of discounts takes a huge bite out of your wallet.
I think if you are going to give discounts out to folks it should be LIMITED…like 10% off their FIRST order from you or 10% off their 10th purchase from you or something along those lines. However, I wouldn’t be placing a slew of ads all over the place allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry to take advantage of that discount.
In addition…it should never be a discount with NO expiration date!!! If you really want discounts to work for you they should have an expiration date of 60 days or less so that it encourages the customer to order sooner than later (later…they could forget).
I do believe in giving discounts but on a very limited basis because in direct sales we are not like big retail stores that can take big cuts into our profit line. So my advice…don’t sell yourself short. If you are going to give customer’s discounts…give it to only a few of them at a time and make sure they have a 60 days or less expiration date.
Your thoughts?
Back in the old days of Direct Sales Marketing leaders used to train their downline consultants to “pressure” folks to get the sale. I am here to tell you that pressuring people to book parties from you or pressuring people to give you the sale is a tactic that you should NOT be practicing! Why you might ask?
Well…to me it is common sense but I will explain why. I am sure that the majority of people in this world have been pressured at one time or another to purchase something and/or to book a party from someone. I want you to remember how you “felt” when that person was pressuring you for the sale or the booking? How did that make you feel? It certainly didn’t make you happy did it? Of course not!
We all get into Direct Sales to make money and that does mean that you need to be talking to people and asking them for the “sale” but…asking them and pressuring them are entirely two different things. If the person tells you they are not interested then you really need to back off and find someone else to talk to about your business and products. If the person says…”not right now” then make a note of that and contact them in a few weeks. (don’t contact them tomorrow!).
Pressuring people to book parties and/or to give you an order is really not the way to go. You can get bookings and orders without pressuring people and “irking” them off. You want to come across as a professional and a gentle/caring person…not as a bully who is asking them to spend their money with you.
So…the next time you are pitching your business to another person just remember that pressuring them is really not the way to go.
100 Days Left In The Year
Get Mentally Tough and Make Those Resolutions A Reality
By Steve Siebold
Remember those New Year’s resolutions you made on January 1? Today marks 100 days left in the year. If you forgot about your resolutions back in February, you can still finish the year off strong.
Whether it’s losing weight, quitting smoking, getting organized or climbing out of debt, everyone CAN reach their goals. People need to focus on their thoughts, beliefs, philosophies and attitudes – otherwise they are setting themselves up to fail before they even begin.
Here are a few tips for making the most of the last 100 days of 2011 and making good on those New Year’s resolutions:
· Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is. Many times the only thing that separates winners from losers is the thought process. Winners have a “whatever it takes” attitude. They’ve made the decision to pay any price and bear any burden in the name of victory.
· Expect to feel pain or suffer. Most people feel the pain or run into an obstacle and seek escape. Have a plan to push forward when this happens. If you’re not ready to suffer during adversity, you’re not going to be successful.
· Developing a world-class self-talk may be the most powerful mental toughness tool.
· Take risks. Don’t always have a “play it safe” or “stay below the radar” mentality. Without risk, there can be no progress.
· Avoid delusion and operate from objective reality.
· Feed your visions and starve your fears.
· Don’t focus on how to do it, but rather, why should I do it? Why do I want this goal to become a reality? The intensity of emotion with which this question is answered will determine whether the dream comes alive or dies.
· Embrace nonlinear thinking. Don’t give into the negative thoughts that the goal is impossible. Ask yourself how can it be done?
· Get really clear about what you want to change. Define what it is and then get totally committed to doing it.
· Compartmentalize your emotions and focus completely on the goal.
· Stop caring about what other people think about your dreams. Psychologists call it “approval addiction”, and once you overcome it to any significant degree, you are free of the psychological chains that bind most people from ever experiencing world-class success.
100 days is plenty of time to accomplish any goal you have. It’s time to get mentally tough and make a plan for long term success. While amateurs often live in the past, champions look toward the future. Focus on the present while creating your ultimate vision for, and landscape of the future. Future orientation allows you to dream of grand visions and unlimited possibilities. It will also keep you motivated and moving forward because it keeps the proverbial carrot out in front. It all begins with taking full responsibility for your life and your future.

My Review: Today I am reviewing for you a custom piece of artwork that I received from AnyArt and this piece is absolutely stunning! I uploaded a photo of my daughter and grand daughter for this custom painted piece and the process was super easy to do. They then turn your image (any image you want) into a custom piece of art. I received a 20″ by 24″ oil painting which retails for $249.00. There are smaller sizes and larger sizes available and prices depend on the size you order.
My piece of custom art arrived safely to my front door a within a couple of weeks of me ordering it. Once the box arrived, I was super excited to open it. Once I got it opened my mouth & jaw just dropped open as I stood their admiring the beauty of my new oil painting of my daughter and grand daughter. The artist hand painted the portrait in oils onto stretched canvas. Mine is unframed but I plan on getting it framed in a nice wooden frame. You can order them unframed or framed and even unframed ones are ready to hang on your wall. These oil paintings are hand painted, not computer generated or some other type of “faux process”, an actual master painter paints your work of art from the image you provide to the company. You can read about the process by visiting this link.
We immediately hung up our painting above our big screen TV and then stud back to look at it again…wow, what a beautiful piece! Everyone who walks into my home comments on my new painting and they can’t get over at how beautiful it is and how accurately the artist captured every little facial feature of my daughter and grand daughter. Matter of fact, the painting is even better than my original photo that I gave to them! Take a look at this close up view of my new custom oil painting, its fantastic!
Overall Impression: I am completely 110% satisfied with my new piece of art. It is so beautiful and it actually brought tears to my eyes when I first saw it. You can tell that the artist who painted it for us is definitely an expert artist! The ordering process was quick and easy and we absolutely love this painting! Most consultants are trained to do some type of hostess coaching in the weeks prior to the host’s party date. Those topics that you normally discuss with the party host usually include how many guests are coming, outside orders/bookings, directions to the host’s home, mailing out the invitations and so forth.
However…many party plan consultants forget to discuss 3 important topics with their hosts during the hostess coaching sessions and today I thought I would bring to your attention 3 topics that I think should be discussed with every home party host. These are not topics you are trained to do but they are important!
1. You should discuss with your party host the topic of alcoholic beverages. Will there be alcohol served at the party and how much? In my personal opinion, alcohol should not be served (guests get into a party mood and not a buying mood when there is alcohol involved). However if there is going to be alcohol served I think you need to stress to your party host that it needs to be kept minimum.
2. You should discuss with your party host the topic of children. Will there be small children at the home party? Are they the host’s children or will the party guests be bringing children to the party? If there is going to be children at the party you should suggest to your party host that she line-up someone to watch over them at the party so that she can be involved in her party and so can her guests. Having 1-2 adults look after children in another room works best in a home party environment.
3. You should discuss with your party host the topic of pets. Does your host have pets in the home? Are the pets friendly? If there are going to be dogs I like to suggest that they put them in a different room if they are not friendly towards strangers. In addition…some guests have pet allergies so having pets put into a different room will also help with that.
You are not normally trained to discuss with your party hosts the topics of alcoholic beverages, small children and pets but in my experience these 3 topics should be incorporated in your host coaching sessions.

10 Major Online Marketing Mistakes by Terri Seymour
Online marketing, also called internet marketing is forever evolving and if you own an online business you need to keep abreast of all the options available to you and your business. Building a business is a learning process and we all will make mistakes. The main thing is to learn from our mistakes so as not to make them again. In my years of online marketing I have learned a lot and want to share with you, what I think, are 10 of the major online marketing mistakes.
1. Not Collecting Email Addresses – Have you ever heard the statement, the money is in the list? Your list can be your goldmine. If you are not collecting email addresses, you need to start now. Put a sign-up form on your site so people can sign up to your mailing list, newsletter, RSS, articles, etc. Offer them a free bonus for signing up. You will be able to collect a list of names with which to send your special offers, sales, etc. and greatly increase your income potential. Be sure to include an opt-out in all mailings. This will give your subscribers the chance to remove themselves from your mailing list if they so choose. Also, never add a person’s email address to your list without their permission.
2. Not Being Social – Social networking has exploded on the internet. Millions of people use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and many other popular sites. If you are not using these sites for your business, you are making a grave error. People will be finding other businesses and not even know you or your business exist.
If you are not yet social, start now by opening an account on the top three:
3. Not Being Available – I have so many people tell me that they have emailed websites and never receive a response. I know from experience this happens way too often. Make it a number one priority to answer email inquiries as quickly as possible. I try to answer within minutes, if possible. This does get a huge response of appreciation. Your visitors need to know that a person is available if they have questions about your products and/or services. This will help in building the relationship and trust needed for an online business.
4. Not Studying Your Web Stats – Your web stats can help you determine how many visitors you get, where they are going, how long they are staying, if they are returning and so on. By analyzing this information, you can develop your website into the most efficient website it can be. One of the best site stats you can use for free is Google Analytics.
5. Not Using Viral Marketing – Viral marketing uses the same concept as the snowball effect. You start with one tiny snowball and roll it down a hill and it turns into a great mass of snow. Viral marketing can do the same thing for your site. You can give away free ebooks, free reports, free articles and other helpful resources. You give one person a free ebook with your name and link info in it and this person passes it onto their visitors and those visitors pass it on to their visitors and so on. One big giant snowball of traffic!
6. Not Keeping Up with Changes – Over the years internet marketing has changed immensely. Some methods become outdated and new innovative marketing concepts come into play. Even though some of the older methods might still work, you still need to keep up with the new innovative changes in marketing such as social media and video marketing. Always be learning and always keep up with new marketing methods.
7. Ignoring Your Competitors – In business you always have to keep an eye on your competitors. You can learn a lot from your competitors and about your own business as well. Visit forums where you and your competitors might be discussed and learn from what is being said. There is software that will help you find such forums called Boardtracker. Visit your competitors’ sites often to see how they are evolving and how it is working for them. Find out their strengths and weaknesses. Find out what works and what doesn’t. Don’t ever ignore your competitors!
8. Not Being Professional – Your business is a business and needs to be treated as such. Your site needs to look professional. Be sure to proofread all your content and add a Privacy Policy page to your site. You should also have a policy page with your shipping, return, exchange, etc. policies so buyers know what to expect. Make your site look, feel and read like a professional site. You also need to respond professionally in emails, forums, social sites, etc. Be polite, courteous, fair and never let your emotions get the better of you.
9. Not Having a User-Friendly Site – I have seen many sites which have caused me to immediately leave.
Some examples would be:
Blaring music that comes on with no way to turn it off.
Flashy irritating graphics all over the place.
Ads plastered all over with no clear way to navigate the site.
No contact info.
Basically no professionalism of any kind.
Don’t let your site fall into these categories. If you have music on your site, give the option of music or not. Always make the pages clean, easy to read and navigate. Be sure to have your contact info on all pages. Don’t have a lot of flashy graphics that will drive your visitors away. Control the amount of ads you have on your site as well.
10. Don’t Give Up! – In my opinion, one of the biggest mistakes people make when they start an online business is giving up too soon. Building a business takes time and you have to commit to it and stick with it. Unfortunately, I have seen many people give up prematurely and then wonder why they can’t make money. I thought of giving up myself many times but stuck with it because I wanted to help my family while being able to stay home and take care of them. I kept on and was persistent and it slowly started paying off. Once I started with ebooks, my business really took off and now I am very grateful I did not give up when I felt discouraged!
If you have found the business you are passionate about, stick with it and do not give up! Keep your passion alive and you can be a great success!
