Twitter Tip: No Spam Auto-Reply Message For New Followers

One of the many reasons people unfollow you is because they feel you are constantly self-promoting. Spamming is taboo. Our exposure to it comes in many forms every single day – email, forum boards, blog comments, phone calls, text messaging, auto-reply on Twitter and even snail mail. It’s overkill and it’s annoying.

Some people choose to use automatic reply tweets via DM (direct message) to their new followers. First impressions are important so don’t make the mistake of sending an automatic reply tweet by spamming your new followers. For me, that’s a guaranteed unfollow.

Social networking is about connecting, sharing and learning. It’s never about promoting your business first.
